Playoffs and championships
CIF Southern Section Playoffs
Section roundEach CIF section runs its own playoffs, split into divisions by competitive equity (current-season results), not school size. One champion per division.

CIF SoCal Regional Championships
Terminal titleThe CIF state office runs a regional round above the section titles. This is the terminal championship: unlike basketball or soccer, water polo has no state final, so each region crowns its own champion.

Leagues and qualifying
How teams qualify · CIF-SS
A league’s size sets its guaranteed playoff berths (4 teams, 2 berths; 5–6 teams, 3 berths; 7–8 teams, 4 berths; 9+ teams, 5 berths). The league’s own standings decide which members take them; leftover spots go to at-large teams (a .500-or-better record). CIF-SS sends 8 teams on to the regional round.
